Reading:
This week in reading we dove into our realistic fiction books. We finalized our goals for reading for the fall. We also discussed how to find new books to read. We learned that our classmates are one of the best resources for finding new books! Lastly, we learned how to grow ideas about characters in our books. We watched patterns our characters displayed in the beginning and looked for changes. We asked ourselves mental questions to help us get to know our characters better.
Writing:
In writing we learned how to get to know our main character. Like in reading, we are working on crafting a realistic fiction story. The strategy we worked on this week was brainstorming the external and internal characteristics of our character. We thought about how this character perceives others in the story as well as himself/herself.
Math:
We began our first unit of math this week. We worked on multiplying all the way up to a million! Then we established how to do a gallery walk. We observed each other’s work and provided feedback. We even got to post a few problems on SeeSaw with a partner!
Inquiry:
This week in inquiry we wrapped our discussion on values. We watched a video about a boy named Caine who created an arcade completely out of cardboard. We discussed that Caine valued fun the most, but he also valued friendship and connection with others. We shared our family values to the class. We noticed many of us value the same things.
